Speak around about Climate Change make me fells afraid to face the future. Is the future existing? It is really interesting to say that the future is nothing. The none sense sentence or the very enormous meaning on that. I never say that world will be live eternal and lasting.
Went home from the class, environmental planning PLAN 625, I heard and learn about Climate Change. It was presented by Dr. RK Pachauri. He is the chairman of IPCC (International Panel of Climate Change), director-general of TERI (Tata Energy Research Institute). The speaking was relied from New Delhi India to my class room in Saunders Halls 112. It was amazing for me get involved in the international class that is followed by more than six universities in Asia and America.
He stated that climate change is unequivocal. There is huge evidence to prove the phenomenon. The temperature trend shows increase. The result of the study shows that the distinction from 1960 to 2000 is 13.6 0C to 14.50C. Last time the Polar Regions were significantly warmer than present for an extended period (about 125,000 years ago), reductions in polar ice volume led to 4 to 6 m of sea level rise. In addition warmth of the last half country is unusual in at least the previous 1,300 years. On the other words the global average temperature is increase, the global average of sea level is increase and the northern hemisphere snow cover is decrease. All the phenomenon influence the physical condition and impact i.e the significant changes in precipitation, more intense and longer droughts, widespread change in extreme temperature and increasing intense cyclone activity. Who responsible with that? What happen in earth? Is he getting older and senile?
Dr RK Pachauri said that human contributes to climate change. There is now stronger evidence of human influence on climate. He supported through the models which shows the distinction between models using only natural forcing and models using both natural and anthropogenic forcing. Those models illustrate the range of different of temperature anomaly 0,2 – 0,7, the models using only natural forcing is less contribute to the increasing of temperature. Hence the global atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases increased markedly as result of human activities. In 2005 concentration of CO2 exceeded by far the natural range over the last 650,000 years.
Based on the explanation from Dr. R.K Pachauri, climate change will reduce biodiversity and perturb functioning of most ecosystems. There are 20-30 % of plant and animal species at risk of extinction if increases in global average temperature exceed 1.5 – 2.5 0C. Some ecosystems are highly vulnerable in coral reefs marine shell organisms and tundra, boreal forests, mountain and Mediterranean regions. This climate change also impact on poor regions like as Africa, Asia and Latin America are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. This vulnerability is exacerbated by existing stresses; endemic poverty, limited access to, ecosystem degradation, disasters and conflicts and failure of government system to respond effectively.
The Climate Change is harmful also from human health. Endemic morbidity and mortality due to diarrhoeal disease in East, South and Southeast Asia primarily associated with floods and droughts. Moreover the exacerbation of abundance toxicity of cholera in South Asia to increases in coastal water temperature. And these give the impact in increased deaths, disease and injury due to heat waves, floods, storms and fires and droughts. The water resources and food production tend to suffer the impact of climate change.
Oh… my GOD, is climate change is evil, so we need to extra power to stop it? I stars thinking in my mind. I remember the Quran said:
But seek, through that which ALLAH has given you, the home of the Hereafter, and yet do not forget your share of the world. And do so good as ALLAH has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, ALLAH does not like corrupters. (Al Qasas-28/77)
In Bahasa Indonesia, Kiamat means the end of the live in the world, hence tenan means true, it originally is Javanese language. It is the really ending of the world not only the earth. It become the border between world live and hereafter. Does the climate change is the start of the destruction of earth. I am not really sure. But, climate change cannot be stopped, human only can reduce the speed of change. In other word the end of earth will be come true. (*Erda)
